Welcome to my site of bus photographs, which primarily features vehicles operating in the Tyneside and Wearside areas of north east England.
I have been photographing buses on and off ever since I acquired my first camera on my tenth birthday in 1981, although my enthusiasm for the hobby didn’t truly take off until about 1996/97 - a time of great transition, with the number of older buses such as Leyland Atlanteans and Fleetlines beginning to decline steadily with the introduction of new low-floor easy access vehicles. Also at this time, the variety of liveries and identities carried by vehicles were starting to gradually disappear with the phasing in of new corporate liveries by the region’s big three transport groups, Arriva, Stagecoach and Go-Ahead. Famous names from the north east bus scene such as United Automobile and OK Travel are now sadly just a distant memory today, but thankfully, I had the foresight to photograph some of those company’s vehicles before they disappeared altogether in the late ‘90s.
The site also includes an ever-increasing number of more recent pictures from the current bus scene, so whether your interest is in older buses dating from the 1970’s and ’80s, or the latest easy access vehicles, there should hopefully be a picture of something here to please everyone! |
